“Six Years a Prisoner” is a collection of poems and art written by John Griefen “Gap” Arlegui and Reynaldo “JR” Viernes during their six-year incarceration. Known as the Angat 2, they are political prisoners whose only “crime” was their commitment to serving the urban poor.

For this, they were subjected to state repression and charged with fabricated offenses. In February, they were finally released, but their freedom is not the end of the struggle. It marks the beginning of a new chapter. Once again, they rise, carrying the call for justice not just for themselves, but for all victims of state violence and fascism.

Born from the aftermath of World War II, Jeeps, or Public Utility Jeepneys, have become a cultural icon and a vital, affordable transportation mode for over 40% of commuters in Metro Manila and many provinces across the Philippines. Dubbed the hari ng kalsada (king of the road), jeepneys traverse routes that limited transportation options don't cover, providing an indispensable service. Along with jeepneys comes their art, particularly their hand-painted signage.

The exact origins of jeepney signages are not well-documented, but they are believed to draw deep inspiration from the letter paintings on kalesas (horse-drawn carriages) and the carts of roaming sorbeteros (ice cream vendors) in the streets of Metro Manila. These eye-catching signages serve not only to provide directions but also as a form of artistic expression - a truly remarkable piece of Philippine culture.

20% of the profits from each sale of this product goes to Bagsakan Farmers. Bagsakan Farmers are a group of farmers from San Jose Del Monte, Bulacan, who has been experiencing exploitation and land grabbing for decades.

These farmers practice Bungkalan, a collective method of farming, to sell their produce and resist land grabbing. Despite their efforts, they face low prices for their crops and ongoing militarization of their lands. Learn about their ongoing struggles here.

The design also features the poppy flower, a symbol of Palestinian resistance, honoring those who have fought against occupation and imperialist violence. 2.25 inch button pins, made with Malong Batik fabric scraps from the Philippines. The texts on each buttons are individually heat pressed and embossed for added texture.

Since all our fabric pins are handmade from Batik scraps, the fabric patterns may vary and we can't guarantee an exact match to what’s shown.

Batik is a traditional textile art form that originated in Indonesia, particularly on the island of Java and commonly seen across Southeast Asia. It is made by applying hot wax to fabric in intricate patterns, then dyeing the cloth. The wax resists the dye, creating beautiful, layered designs. This process is often repeated with different colors to produce complex and vibrant motifs.

100% of the profits ($3.50 per pin) from the Free Palestine Button Pins will go toward our ongoing pledge to the Canadian Palestinian Foundation of Quebec, directly supporting The People Stand with Gaza International Fundraiser.
